Tony Vargis – Activity Coordinator

St. Regis Punta Mita Blog, Guest Blogger Diaries, January 2013

You’ll find Tony Vargas moving energetically about the resort, bounding from one place to another, greeting people with a smile on his face, outstretched hand and mirthful heart. He’s more than happy to meet a guest for a game of chess, teach them how to paddle board, make guacamole or a margarita. Tony takes great joy in making sure the children’s magic fountain circle is functioning properly.

His energy level and attitude is ideal for someone who’s the Activity Coordinator at St. Regis Punta Mita, a job Tony’s been doing for the last two years. Vargas lives with his wife and 14-year old son in Puerto Vallarta, the same town in which he grew up, sang in the church choir and played sports. He’s recently taken up golf and says, “I am not very good yet, but I love playing. It is so peaceful out on the course, very calming.”

Tony’s days are busy and as diverse as the program of activities that he teaches and participates in with resort guests. Working with individuals and varying group sizes, Tony provides an extensive list of activities including: beach volleyball, water aerobics, paddle boarding, snorkeling, hiking, bird watching, kayaking, a walk to town/local cultural overview, Spanish, and classes on making a mojito, margarita, and guacamole. “I also do tequila talks and tasting,” said Vargas. “I took a course at Jose Cuerbo in Jalisco (Mexican state south of Punta Mita) with classes and hands on training at the distillery. I’m now certified to teach and I am a union member.”

Scheduled classes and activities are posted each day in St. Regis’s morning newsletter delivered to your door. Tony can be reached by contacting your butler or the concierge. All activities are offered at no charge, except for the tequila tasting session. You’ll have a lot of fun and get to take home recipes.

Saludos,

Guillermo
