The first Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf (PMGG) was not only the beginning of what is now a much anticipated annual event, but also the catalyst to design other notable events that celebrate golf, spirits and cuisine. The galas, particularly the PMHH, have grown from attracting modest audiences of golfers, gourmands, residents and visitors to sell-out extravaganzas. Placing participants close to the action with international master chefs and champion professional golfers in an adrenaline rush for some and a sense of being part of an extraordinary happening for others.
“From the inception in 2011 of the PMGG, our signature golf and gastronomy event, Punta Mita continues to offer participants memorable moments while new creations such as Masters of Food, Wine & Golf, Punta Mita Invitational Pro-Am, The Pacific Cup eries, and Punta Mita CHarity Golf CLassic amongst others add to a variety of offerings and enriching experiences for all,” shared Carl Emberson, Director of Marketing and Operations at Punta Mita.
Gala participants are afforded the opportunity to interact and communicate with people from other places and cultures. Integration into a worldwide community is facilitated, not divided by literal or figurative borders. Nelson Mandela said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.”
In addition to sports, it is evident that food has the power to unite when world-class chefs are given the opportunity to interact, share, inspire and create. The camaraderie fostered at these unique events combined with the magic of Punta Mita make for unparalleled experiences.
White the Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf (PMGG) continues to offer participants memorable moments, newly created programs as the Punta Mita Invitational (PMI), Masters of Food, Wine & Golf, The Pacific Cup Series Punta Mita Charity Golf Classic have been introduced to expand the breadth, depth and variety of unique events offered.
Punta Mita Gourmet & Golf
This event continues to deliver the best of local and international culinary possibilities, as well as world-class golf experiences. Banderas Bay resident chefs, international guest chefs, and spirits from Mexico and abroad delight and satisfy palates, while two Jack Nicklaus Signature courses challenge the players. As always, everyone appreciates being in the presence of returning legendary, guest players: Mexican LPGA star Lorena Ochoa and American PGA champion Craig “The Walrus” Stadler.
Both Jack Nicklaus Signature championship courses share bay and ocean views, and challenging layouts. The Pacifico course plays along the coast with seven holes looking to the water. It features generous, open fairways and greens; and the “Tail of the Whale,” the world’s only natural island golf green. Bahia has five ocean-view holes with undulating fairways and greens protected by deep adjacent bunkers.
This event has raised over $400,000 USD for charity. As has become a tradition, this year’s auction support the Lorena Ochoa and one of our local charities. On this occasion, PEACE Punta de Mita.
Punta Mita Invitational Pro-Am
This exclusive invitational golf event offers guests a rare opportunity to play alongside tour players from the PGA Tour, Champions Tour, European Tour, LPGA Tour, and Web.com Tour. The next version of this one of a kind three day event will be February 24 to 27, 2020. Players will participate in competitive rounds accompanied by some of the best players in the world on Bahia and Pacifico courses. On day one, a group might play with a PGA Tour player, while the second day play with an LPGA Tour player. The relaxed atmosphere establishes a unique and intimate golfing experience for the players; no other event allows this type of access to touring professionals. Tour pros in the Punta Mita Invitational include former Masters and US Open champions, as well as up-and-coming players from both the men’s and women’s tours.
The Punta Mita Invitational Pro-Am 2020 consists of two competitions. The first is a three-person amateur team format, pairing each group with two different tour pros. The two-day combined scores determine the group champions. The second competition is a team format, where the entire field divides into two teams; Pacifico and Bahia. Each day the top three group scores count towards the team’s total. Each player on the team plays their ball. The two lowest best ball scores (1 net and 1 gross) counts as the group’s score. The two scores cannot be from the same player. Each amateur receives 70% of their handicap.
In addition to golf, participants join in culinary experiences prepared by master chefs at various Punta Mita venues, including Pacifico Beach Club, Sufito y Kupuri Beach Club.
Masters of Food, Wine & Golf
Masters of Food, Wine & Golf concept brought together a lineup of accomplished chefs from prestigious golf clubs and worldwide resorts to showcase unexcelled flavorful cuisine. It was an extraordinary opportunity for a diverse collection of chefs to develop camaraderie while working side-by-side at these spectacular events.
The chefs at the Masters of Food, Wine & Golf experienced in the kitchen a feeling similar to what team members feel when golfing in tournaments at Punta Mita events or golf clubs anywhere. The desire for camaraderies draws players back to the course time and time again to enjoy the freedom of being together in friendship. The camaraderie developed amongst chefs created a network that lives on.
Punta Mita residents, guests, visitors, and a number of chefs competed as two-person teams in a two-day tournament, playing an 18-hole scramble one day on Bahia and 18-hole best ball round on Pacifico the next. All appreciated the delectable culinary creations by the stellar lineup of chef superstars for breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the resort.
Participants at these and other events at Punta Mita experience golfing and gastronomy as flavors of interest and passions of the palate. It’s deliciously unforgettable and provides the incentive to return for future events or to purchase a home at this lovely tropical setting in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico.
